Friends in Need; RL with Azula

After securing a worldhop (which was actually pretty hard to get, considering all the crazy "shadow" things going on, but Ryan is magic and gets what he wants), Ryan showed up at the AU house that's completely empty. Well, okay then. Azula always struck him as a minimalist so, cool.

He wandered through the place a little cautiously, since he knew that Azula was a little... um, easily annoyed. "Azula?"

"I know that you're a good person - well, okay. Maybe not a good person, but." He sat up. "You do care about people - even if it's just like, one or two people - and you care about your nation's well-being, and... I don't know." He could just feel it. Then again, guys like him probably couldn't feel anything other than fluffy bunny emotions anyway. "You just aren't evil or anything."

"Of course I care about my nation. And I never said I was evil. I don't do bad things without a good reason." A good reason in her mind, anyway. "I'm a national hero."

"You can't be a monster and not be evil."

"Yes I can. I am."

He raised his eyebrows. "Why do you want to be a monster? That's... not something you should try to be." After all, being a bad person was, well... bad.

"It's not what I want, or don't want. It's just what I am." She lay on her back, looking up at the ceiling.

"Well - what if it was about what you wanted?"

She frowned. "What do you mean?"

"Well, you're saying that you just are a monster. But what about what you want to be? Like, do you want to be a monster or... what?"

"I told you, I don't care. I want to be me, and if I'm a monster, then so be it."

...Well, he guessed that made sense. "All right. I was just asking. Sometimes people have to be something they don't want to be, is all."

"Any leader knows that."

"I figured as much." He shrugged. "But if you're happy how you are, I can't really blame you for wanting to stay that way."

"'Happy' is the wrong word."

He frowned. "Then what's the right one?

"How should I know?"

"Because you're smart." Okay, that was a little like a challenge. Well, hey. It was deserved.

"Smart enough to know that emotions are pointless and paying attention to them is even worse."

"That's not true." Ryan shook his head and made a face. "Emotions are part of you, so they have to be important. Otherwise, you wouldn't have them. And... no offense, Azula, but you not paying attention to your emotions has brought you here." He gestured to the room, indicating the house as a whole. "You can't ignore something important to you."

Another haughty sniff. "I don't know what you're talking about."

He frowned. "How can you not? You really cared about Dr. Cuddy, right? And... you know, you trying to hide that, it's put you in a situation where... um, you know. You're here, instead of dealing with it in a way that doesn't feel awful."

"I want to be in here."

"Well, yeah, but..." He shook his head. "Never mind, I guess. I don't really know if this is healthy or not, though I don't really think it is, so..."

"It's a house. What's unhealthy about it?"

[iknowucan]

"Um. Not really the house itself." He fidgeted and almost got up, but that wouldn't do much. "It's just like... You're sleeping in an empty house because it's a replica of the place you can't get to any more, you know? And it's... kind of unhealthy - I mean, there's no heating or anything, and even though you... like, accept the situation logically, you're still emotionally too invested in it. I guess? I don't know. I'm probably wrong, I don't know how you cope with stuff, but I'd be worried about myself if I spent too much time here."
