Friends in Need; RL with Azula

After securing a worldhop (which was actually pretty hard to get, considering all the crazy "shadow" things going on, but Ryan is magic and gets what he wants), Ryan showed up at the AU house that's completely empty. Well, okay then. Azula always struck him as a minimalist so, cool.

He wandered through the place a little cautiously, since he knew that Azula was a little... um, easily annoyed. "Azula?"

"I told you, I don't want to talk." She kept walking down the hall, going into the master bedroom and sitting down against the wall in there.

He caught up with her, but stood in the doorway instead of following her all the way in. "Well, you obviously want something - and don't say 'for you to go away' because we both know I'm way too dumb to leave when you ask me." A little self-deprecating humor was a good idea, right?

"I don't want you." She wasn't yelling anymore, at least, but she was still clearly upset.

"I know, you want Dr. Cuddy, but I'm trying to help you..." Don't say get over it, "Deal with it until we figure something out."

"I don't need help." She leaned her head against the wall; the fight had gone from her just as quickly as it had come. She was tired.

He was treating her like a powder keg - or a rabid dog. Who knew. "You have a pile of blankets in an abandoned home that's in an alternate universe of where Dr. Cuddy lives." He crossed his arms - that sounded like help might be needed to him.

"So?" Azula didn't see the problem. Though she loved the Fire Nation dearly and was committed to its success at any cost, she had grown increasingly uncomfortable with spending too much leisure time at the palace (that was all Father and Ty Lee's fault, of course). Lisa's house was where she felt comfortable, and so she was going to stay there, alternate universe or not.

He sighed and stepped forward, still kind of cautious but trying to look like he wasn't concerned. "It's kind of a call for help. Like, you can't... stay here. It's a house in a world and it's probably for sale - what if people come in to look at it?"

"No one's come so far." She knew that he was right, but she didn't particularly care. She wanted to stay here and that was the end of it.

"It's not a call for help. It's a call to be left alone."

"Not yet, but... I mean, you can't expect it to stay like this."

He risked a few more steps forward. "You can't always do things on your own, you know."

She crossed her arms, resting her head against the wall. "I don't see why not."

FINALLY GOT SOME KIND OF MUSICAL CUE hahahahaa

Ryan shook his head and mumbled to himself in a distinctly lyrical tone... Not that he noticed. It wasn't like he knew he was singing when he slipped into a musical cue - it just sort of happened. "♪How am I suppose to help somebody, when they tell me that they don't need help? How am I suppose to reach somebody that doesn't know they need to save themselves?♫"

He ran a hand through his hair and held up his hands. "Azula, ♪I've done all I can do - you've gotta help me to help you.♫"

"Stop patronizing me," she growled. "I know more about me than you do!"

"I'm not patronizing you," he frowned, "♪I know that lately, things haven't been so good, but I've always said if I could ever help you, I would.♫ I'm trying to do what I said I'd do."

She made a face. "Why are you singing?

...Pause.

"What?"

"You're singing. Why?"

Ryan looked at Azula like she'd grown another head. "...No I'm not."

"Yes you were!" Was he insane as well as stupid?

...You know, thinking back on it, hadn't Chuck asked him that when he'd first met him? That was... really weird. Ryan just wasn't very good at meta.

"...I didn't think I was singing." So weird. "Maybe I just... got carried away? Huh. I like to sing, though." Chin scratch, "Did it sound good?"

"No." He had, but she wasn't going to admit it.

"Why are you still here?"

"Weird!" He was kind of excited about this, no lie. A little disappointed that he hadn't been at the top of his game, but he wasn't exactly freaking out over the new situation. "I usually don't have to warm up much to sing but maybe that's why."

The question took him by surprise, since he was still thinking about how he was singing unconsciously. "Um, because..." He chewed his lip and leaned against the wall. "Well, okay. I'm here because I want to be here, honestly."

"I think you're lying." She slid further down against the wall, almost slouching.

"I'm really not!" He grinned. "I'm a really bad liar, I stutter and look away and get super awkward. I saw your post and I didn't want you to be alone. Even if you think all you want is to be left alone, trust me, it... sucks after a while. And I really didn't like how all those people were treating you - virus or not, being a jerk isn't cool."
