Friends in Need; RL with Azula

After securing a worldhop (which was actually pretty hard to get, considering all the crazy "shadow" things going on, but Ryan is magic and gets what he wants), Ryan showed up at the AU house that's completely empty. Well, okay then. Azula always struck him as a minimalist so, cool.

He wandered through the place a little cautiously, since he knew that Azula was a little... um, easily annoyed. "Azula?"

"Well... I don't know. All of it? Stuff you did with her, maybe?" Reminiscing was good, right? "Or just about her leaving...?"

She raised an eyebrow. "We did a lot of things."

"Well... like what?"

Picking up on a familiar topic, she said, "We went to the spa once."

He smiled. "Sounds like fun. Only once?"

"On my birthday."

"Oh, right!" He forgot about that. "That's a real birthday present," he laughed - not like a dog, right?

She gave a slight nod. "There was a virus that day and she got sort of mad at me because of a misunderstanding, but we worked it out. She can get mad at people without hating them." That was still a concept Azula struggled with sometimes-- she hadn't understood it with Ty Lee, either.

The present tense was pretty telling to Ryan, who just nodded along. "That's an good quality to have." Sometimes, he wished everyone could have that. Then again, he never really got angry.

"She's a good person."

He probably shouldn't ask, but it came out anyway. "What are you going to do if she comes back and... you know."

"Nothing," she said woodenly.

She really had no idea what she'd do. The only real experience she had had with this sort of thing was with Ty Lee, and given that they were from the same world, she hadn't had many options.

He nodded slowly. "Okay."

"Why? What did you think I would say?"

"I didn't know. That's why I asked. Maybe you would rather try to talk to her or something, I didn't know."

"What would be the point of that? 'Hello, I'm someone who you used to know when you were here before'?"

"Hey, that's why I asked. I don't know how you'd take it."

"How I'd 'take it'," she repeated.

"Er, handle it."

"I know what you meant.

"What do you think I'd do? Scream and cry?"

Ryan made a face. "You must seriously think I'm really dumb if you think I'd expect you to do anything like that."

"You'd be surprised at what people sometimes think."

"I try to form my own opinions on people, unless I don't have any other choice. You wouldn't break down and cry because of it, you're stronger than that."

"So you know that I don't cry, ever." That wasn't true (as much as she would have liked it to be), but she was curious about what he'd say.

He knew what she probably wanted to hear (yep, never!), but Ryan was hardwired to be truthful when he could. "Not in front of people, definitely."
