Friends in Need; RL with Azula

After securing a worldhop (which was actually pretty hard to get, considering all the crazy "shadow" things going on, but Ryan is magic and gets what he wants), Ryan showed up at the AU house that's completely empty. Well, okay then. Azula always struck him as a minimalist so, cool.

He wandered through the place a little cautiously, since he knew that Azula was a little... um, easily annoyed. "Azula?"

She gave a barely audible sigh. That was almost true, but not quite. She's cried in front of Ty Lee before, and also Lisa. It hadn't really been on purpose, but...

"You're right," she said. "Never in front of people."

A pause.

"Never at all, actually."

"I don't believe that."

"Why not?"

"I don't know. I just don't think there's anybody who never cries. It's good for you."

"Crying isn't good for you."

"Sure it is. I don't know like, the specifics, but I know that crying is a release and stuff. Like, it releases good chemicals in your brain or something."

"Obviously not chemicals that I need."

"Well, maybe not need... but it helps. So you don't feel miserable. That's why people go see sad movies sometimes, or cry when they're feeling really overwhelmed, even if it's not a sad thing. I used to cry when I got stressed a lot, but then I learned how to manage my time better so I wouldn't get all blotchy every time I had three papers due in a week."

"Well, maybe you should!" He smiled. "It really does help."

"I don't need help."

Ryan figured that she did, so the most he could do was give her an unconvinced look.

She kept her head turned away, resolutely ignoring it.

Finally, he sighed. "Sure, Azula." He sounded... disappointed, maybe?

She noticed. "What?

"It's nothing. You don't care what I think, anyway, so it doesn't matter."

"No, tell me."

He huffed. He shouldn't tell her, just to be mean. But that would be mean, and he couldn't do that to anyone, especially someone he was trying to be extra nice to.

"I think you're lying about the not needing help thing. You might not want help, but you need it. And you keep acting like you can handle everything that's on your plate when it's obvious you can't. How would it hurt you to let someone lend a hand just once? I don't even mean just me - I know you could find other people in your world or on the community that would be willing to lend you a shoulder to lean on."

The infuriating part was that she knew he was right. She wasn't about to admit that, though.

"Nothing is obvious. You don't even know me."

"Maybe I don't, but I know what you're doing. You're not the only person I know who thinks they can be an island in the ocean, you know."

"But maybe I'm the only one who can pull it off."

He shook his head. "Nobody can be alone all the time."

She kicked a leg out and sat up just a little, wishing she'd brought the blankets from the other room along with her. "Then what are you talking about? 'Emotionally'? Pathetic."
